Key Outcomes

Delivered a fully bilingual Arabic RTL / English LTR cloud HRMS application — one of the few HR platforms with native Arabic interface design

Implemented GPS-verified attendance with map based clock-in/out, eliminating location fraud for distributed workforces across the Middle East

Enabled end-to-end HR workflows — leave requests, expense reimbursements, loan applications, and manager approvals — all from mobile

The Challenge

Before partnering with Iottive, Ahlan Technology was facing several issues:

Lack of Arabic-Native HR Software

Most enterprise HRMS platforms were built for English-first markets. Arabic RTL support was either absent or poorly implemented — mirrored layouts, broken date formats, and untranslated system messages made adoption difficult for Arabic-speaking employees.

Unreliable Attendance Tracking

Traditional punch-card and manual check-in systems were easily circumvented. With employees working across multiple sites in the Middle East, there was no way to verify that attendance was logged from the correct physical location.

Manual Approval Bottlenecks

Leave requests, expense claims, and loan applications were handled through email chains and paper forms. Managers traveling between sites had no way to review and approve requests in real time.

No NFC Terminal Integration

Existing attendance terminals required proprietary software. Ahlan needed a mobile solution that could also interact with NFC-enabled terminals already deployed at client sites.

Our Solution

Iottive delivered a complete AIoT solution under a full-cycle product development model.

software-development 1

Mobile Development Expertise

Built a native Android application with full Arabic RTL layout support — every screen, calendar, navigation drawer, and data table renders correctly in right-to-left orientation. The app integrates with GPS and NFC hardware for attendance verification.

Design Thinking Approach

Worked closely with Ahlan Technology’s product team to understand Middle Eastern HR workflows, including region-specific leave policies, Hijri calendar integration, and the cultural expectations around approval hierarchies. UX design was validated with Arabic-speaking users.

project-planning

Project Planning & Execution

Delivered in four sprints: core attendance and dashboard (Sprint 1), leave and request management (Sprint 2), expense tracking with receipt uploads (Sprint 3), and NFC terminal integration with admin features (Sprint 4).

Functionalities Delivered

Work summary dashboard, GPS-based clock-in/out with map visualization, monthly schedule calendar, leave and vacation requests, loan and reimbursement applications with receipt photo upload, remote manager approvals, and NFC attendance terminal support.

Implementation Highlights

arabic (1)

Arabic RTL Interface Architecture

Built a complete RTL layout system covering navigation, data tables, calendar views, and form inputs. Date handling supports both Gregorian and Hijri calendars with locale-aware formatting for the Middle Eastern market.

GPS

GPS Attendance Verification

Implemented geofenced clock-in/out with live map visualization. The system records precise coordinates at check-in, compares against registered work locations, and flags discrepancies for manager review.

NFC (1)

NFC Terminal Integration

Developed NFC read/write capabilities allowing the mobile app to interact with existing attendance terminals deployed at client facilities, providing a bridge between legacy hardware and the cloud HRMS.

validation (1)

Request & Approval Engine

Built a configurable workflow engine supporting leave requests, expense reimbursements, and loan applications. Each request type follows a defined approval chain with push notifications to managers and real-time status updates.

Receipt

Receipt & Document Management

Integrated camera-based receipt capture with automatic image optimization and cloud upload. Expense reports link directly to receipt photos, eliminating paper-based documentation.

Cloud Infrastructure Design

Cloud Sync & Offline Resilience

Designed the app to cache attendance records and pending requests locally when connectivity is limited, then sync automatically when connection is restored — critical for sites with unreliable network coverage.

Results & Impact

  • First-to-market Arabic-native HRMS mobile app with complete RTL interface and Hijri calendar support
  • GPS attendance verification eliminated location fraud across distributed Middle Eastern workforces
  • Manager approval turnaround reduced from days (email based) to hours (push notification based)
  • NFC terminal integration preserved existing hardware investments while adding cloud connectivity
  • Expense documentation went fully digital — receipt photos linked directly to reimbursement requests

“We searched for months for a development partner who truly understood RTL interfaces — not just mirroring a layout, but building an Arabic experience from the ground up. Iottive delivered that, plus the GPS and NFC features that differentiate us in the Gulf market.”

— Bassam Almogahed, Ahlan Technology

Lessons & Best Practices

Build RTL from the Ground Up

Retrofitting RTL onto an LTR interface always
produces layout artifacts. Every component — navigation drawers, calendar grids, data tables — was designed RTL-first, then adapted for English.

Validate GPS Accuracy in Real Conditions

GPS precision varies significantly between urban high-rises and open industrial sites in the Middle East. Geofence radii were calibrated through field testing, not desktop assumptions.

Respect Regional Workflow Norms

Approval hierarchies in Middle Eastern
organizations often differ from Western flat structure models. The workflow engine was designed to accommodate multi-tier approval chains that match local management culture.

Design for Intermittent Connectivity

Many work sites in the region have limited cellular coverage. Offline-first architecture for attendance and request caching ensured the app remained functional regardless of network availability.
